Lucy Balfour
Lucy Balfour delivers consistently dynamic and spirited
performances. Classically trained, Lucy graduated from the
International Ballet Academy in Christchurch in 2002 and joined
Royal New Zealand Ballet in 2003.
Her performance as Lady Capulet in Romeo & Juliet 2008
was described as "riveting and "spine-tingling". Her performance as
lead gypsy in 2008's Meridian Season of Don Quixote was
labelled "deliciously irreverent". In the 2010 From Here to
There, Lucy performed lead roles in A Song in the
Dark and A Million Kisses to My Skin; reviewer Sheryl
Robinson said, "[Lucy] sets the tone of the work with her extension
and graceful athleticism."
Most recently, Lucy performed the role of Lady Florine, the cat,
alongside Shannon Dawson in The Meridian Season of The Sleeping
Beauty. The National Business Review described the pair's
comic genius as "adding whimsical humour to the dance, providing a
delightful sense of narrative." Lucy is one of the stars of the TV
3 series, The Secret Lives of Dancers.
"Lucy Balfour's solo was a taut display of the exotic, the
sensual and menacing" The National Business Review.
