The Meridian Season of The Sleeping Beauty - Weta Workshop

Royal New Zealand Ballet has collaborated with Weta Workshop's award-winning team to create special effects for the new production of The Meridian Season of The Sleeping Beauty. The fire-breathing dragon brings movie magic to a live performance. Look out for the fabulous cat masks too!

Backstage Video: Wild on the West Coast (ep10)
 
TOWER Tutus on Tour is always an adventure, especially for our newer international dancers who haven't had a chance to see much of the country. This tour is a chance for them to experience all those small towns and communities that make New Zealand special. Our South Island group even got to experience some local haute cuisine at the legendary Hokitika Wild Food Festival recently.

Royal New Zealand Ballet dancers touring the North Island with TOWER Tutus on Tour have become involved in the hunt for a fleet-footed chicken in Havelock North. Backstage Video was on-hand to follow the story of 16 dancers, three goats and one determined chicken.

Backstage Video: TOWER Tutus on Tour Hits the Road

Every two years the Royal New Zealand Ballet divides in two and visits more than 40 towns and cities across New Zealand. Over the six week tour the company performs in community theatres, town halls, school gymnasiums and the occasional fruit packing shed! The punishing schedule makes Tutus on Tour logistically challenging for the stage crew and physically demanding for the dancers.

Backstage Video: Jacob Chown – Street Style

Jacob Chown is not your average ballet dancer. Outside of rehearsals he can be spotted cruising the streets of Wellington on his skateboard or riding the bowl at Chaffers Park skatepark. A graduate of the Australian Ballet School, Jacob is a former Western Australia state trampoline champion. His acrobatic ability crosses over into his love of break-dancing and circus arts. Jacob had lead roles in Silhouette and A Million Kisses to My Skin in the 2010 triple bill From Here to There and features in the TV3 series, The Secret Lives of Dancers.

Take an exclusive tour of Jaered Glavin’s wondrous wardrobe with Backstage Video.
One of the RNZB’s most colourful characters, Jaered has featured extensively in the current TV3 series, The Secret Lives of Dancers.
He hit the headlines when his choreographic tribute to Lady Gaga was posted on youtube and was viewed more than 50,000 times in just 10 days - making it New Zealand’s top-rated youtube clip in May.

 

 

Backstage Video: Brendan Bradshaw – Talent Rising

Backstage Video previews a new work being created by one of the RNZB’s most talented dancers. Brendan Bradshaw is making a name for himself in the world of choreography. He has been invited to present a new work at Tempo Dance Festival’s 2010 Showcase - Y Chromozone, an all male programme featuring some of New Zealand’s leading dancers.
 

 

Backstage Video: Adriana Harper – Injury Comeback

It’s every dancer’s worst nightmare – an injury that requires surgery and months of rehabilitation. Adriana Harper collapsed in pain during a performance of La Sylphide last September. Originally diagnosed as a sprain, further examination revealed she had torn the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee. To comeback from such a serious injury would take hard work and mental toughness.
