"It is with great pleasure that I introduce our 2011 Dance Explorer Community Education programme. Royal New Zealand Ballet has always taken great pride in being able to share what we love doing. With such a rich repertoire of work presented by the company, workshops, tours, forums and ballet classes have been designed especially for you to gain a greater understanding of what happens behind the scenes at your national ballet company. Enjoy."

Q & A
An informal post-performance chat for dance lovers and the curious first-timer, the perfect time for the questions you’ve always wanted to ask. These talks take place after matinee performances on selected dates. This event does not require registration.
For passionate classical advanced students and over. The Advanced Ballet Class will continue for an extra half an hour so you can learn the company’s repertoire, taught by the members of the RNZB artistic team.
See how our costumes are made and watch the dancers as they rehearse in the studios. Learn about the history of the RNZB and its journey from Harbour City to the St James Theatre. Tours are facilitated for groups of up to 40 people and are held on selected Thursday and Friday mornings from 10.30am.
Male dance students often work in isolation in New Zealand. This event is a fantastic opportunity for boys to meet and work with professional male role models. Boys aged 10 years and over can meet the male dancers of Royal New Zealand Ballet, watch them in company class and then participate in an open class. Please note that parents are not permitted to participate in or view this event.
For Friends of the Ballet only. Please contact your branch president for booking form.
Mentor Programme
An opportunity for passionate dance students to be mentored by an RNZB dancer. Mentor students will spend time with their mentor during each season, watch the dancers take company class and spend time backstage with the company. Acceptance to the mentor programme is by application.
Teachers Day
This event is suitable for all teachers. It is tailored according to requirements and all participants are invited to watch the company in technique class. Primary, intermediate and secondary school performing arts teachers have the opportunity to discuss ways to study RNZB works in your classrooms with RNZB education staff and leading arts educators from New Zealand universities. In addition, teachers of dance from the private sector can meet with artistic staff to discuss classical technique and teaching trends. This event will run for approximately two hours.
This event is open to all teachers in the public and private sector but does require registration.
