Clytie Campbell

Clytie Campbell joined the Royal New Zealand Ballet in September 2005 for The Nutcracker season returning from eight years dancing in Europe. Starting at the age of five, her entire ballet training was at her mother’s school, the Philippa Campbell School of Ballet in Auckland.

At 17 Clytie left New Zealand to join the Deutsche Oper Ballet in Berlin where she danced for more than six years, before moving on to dance with Vienna’s State Opera Ballet. Since joining the Royal New Zealand Ballet, Clytie lists the grands pas de deux in The Nutcracker and solos in Esquissses and the Queen of the Wilis in Giselle.

As the role of the Groom’s Mother in Les Noces, one reviewer noted “Clytie Campbell provided a strong emotional thread throughout the work with vigorous, provocative dancing”. Last year Clytie took on a more comical role as one of the stepsisters in Cinderella.
