
Qi (pron: Chee) Huan began his ballet study in Shengyang, in China’s Liaoning Province. While a student at the Beijing Dance Academy in 2000 he reached the finals of the New York International Ballet Competition. From 2003-04 he taught at the Beijing Dance Academy alongside former Royal New Zealand Ballet Principal Dancer, Ou Lu.
Since joining RNZB in 2005, Qi has performed a number of lead roles including the title role in Dracula, Romeo in Romeo & Juliet, Basilio in Don Quixote, Captain Hook in Peter Pan, Grand pas de deux in Peter Pan and Prince Désiré in The Meridian Season of The Sleeping Beauty. In 2011’s TOWER Tutus on Tour the Capital Times said Qi gave an “outstanding performance” in Verdi Variations and “stole the show with his solo”.
