While the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s November tour of China was a huge success, the final performance was tinged with sadness as it was time to farewell three of the Company’s longest-serving dancers. Between them, Craig Lord-Sole, Geordan Wilcox and Vivencio Samblaceno Jr spent 44 years dancing with the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Christopher Hampson’s Cinderella looks set to become another family favourite. Last year’s end of year production broke into
the record books after it was seen by 46,000 people. Some fans who didn’t buy their tickets early enough and missed out,
have already contacted the Royal New Zealand Ballet asking when we are going to bring it back!

The Royal New Zealand Ballet’s main studio is a lightfilled room that looks out over inner-city Wellington. It is here that the dancers not only spend hours each day taking class but it’s also where they tirelessly learn the steps to the Company’s next production.

The last time Sir Jon Trimmer was set to perform in Don Quixote, he was poised to share the stage with ballet legend Rudolf Nureyev but the curtain never went up on the production because the overseas company they were working for ran out of money.

But now Sir Jon has a second chance to take up a part in this classic ballet – and not just any part.
